The History of Whippany
Did you know ‘Whippany’ means The place where willow trees grow? Founded in 1685, Whippany is a district within Hanover Township. It is a small suburban community of 8,364 people. Located in Morris County, the town gets its name from the Whippany River which it sits along. The river was once called the Whippanong by the Native Americans who were originally on the land.
Whippany established a series of first in Morris county. They were established the same school, claim the oldest graveyard in the county and were the first municipality.

Bordered by several other communities including Parsippany, Hanover & East Hanover Townships. Whippany is close to trains, buses and many other of life’s conveniences.
Whippany is home to a variety of businesses including Bayer, Masda Corporation, PCF Corporation and many more. Aside from corporations, the town is also home to the historic Whippany Rail Museum. The museum was created and exists to preserve and educate people about the history of railroading in NJ. Commuting
Commuters who work in New York City have multiple options for commuting to the city. If you are interested in taking the bus, locals recommend going to the Livingston Mall Park and Ride or the South Mountain Arena in West Orange and taking the 77 Coach USA Bus Route. The Livingston lot is free to park in, however South Mountain may have more express buses available. Another option would be the Lakeland Bus that goes along route 46.
The closest train station would be Morris Plains. This station is located along the Morristown Line at U.S. Route 202 at the intersection of Speedwell Ave. There are 4 parking lots. Lot 1 contains 114 spaces and is a daily lot that costs $3 a day for both residents and non residents alike. The 2nd lot contains 76 spaces and is permit parking only. The cost is $120 per quearter for residents and non residents. Lots 3 and 4 contains a mere 29 spaces each and are for residents only, at at cost of $200 per year.
